Hello everyone! Welcome back to another lesson on the Malay language. :)

Travelling to a country where their local language is not your first language is never really a problem until you do come across a local who is better versed in their local language and not so in English. 

Recently, there was a news about a honeymoon gone disastrous as there was an emergency and getting around was really hard due to the poor knowledge of the locals' English and the even poor knowledge of the local language of the honeymoon destination of the couple. 

Thus, learning a few key phrases or a little of the local language of a destination that you are travelling to never hurts even if English happened to be widely spoken. :)

In this lesson, I will be entering the topic of "Directions" in the Malay language otherwise known as "arah".

1. Where is ... ? - Di manakah ... ?
    - Where is the cinema? - Di manakah pawagam?

2. Cross the street. - Melintas jalan.
    - Be careful while crossing the street. - Berhati-hati ketika melintas jalan.

3. Go straight ahead. - Pergi terus. / Jalan terus.
    - Go straight ahead until the end of the street. -  Jalan terus hingga ke akhir jalan. / Jalan terus sampai ke akhir jalan.

 4. Close to - Berdekatan
    - I live close to the main street. - Saya tinggal berdekatan jalan utama.


 5. Far from - Jauh dari
    - Is the bank far from here? - Adakah bank terletak jauh dari sini?

 6. Here - Sini
    - The pharmacy is 20 metres from here. - Farmasi adalah 20 meter dari sini.

 7. There - Sana
    - The bank is there. / The bank is located there. - Bank adalah di sana. / Bank adalah terletak di sana.

 8. Turn right - Pusing ke kanan.
    - Turn right at the next stop. - Pusing ke kanan di perhentian seterusnya.

 9. Turn left - Pusing ke kiri.
    - Take the first left. - Ambil pusingan kiri yang pertama.

 10. On the corner. - Di sudut.
      - There is a restaurant on the corner of the building. - Terdapat satu pasaraya di sudut bangunan.
