--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello everyone! Here's another lesson on the Malay Language. Apa khabar? :)
Well, my theme here would be "What languages do you speak?"
So my fellow readers, what languages do you speak?

Personally, I have always been fascinated by languages.
It never fails to amaze me to see someone communicate in various languages.

Being Malaysian myself, I grew up in a multiracial community, united by the common languages spoken, English and Malay, without neglecting to be fluent in their own mother tongue as well.

However, it does not stop there, as we grow up and move on to pursue our education, we learn a little about each other's culture by celebrating their occasions, dining their cuisine and learning a little of their language.

Those simple little things are what make us Malaysians. :)

And so let me ask you this again, my fellow readers, what languages do you speak? :)

1. To speak - Bercakap
    - What languages do you speak? - Bahasa apa yang awak boleh bercakap?

2. I speak ... . - Saya bercakap ... .
    - I speak in Spanish. - Saya bercakap dalam Bahasa Sepanyol.

Note: In Malay when we mention language, we put "bahasa".
For example: Malay language - Bahasa Melayu
                               English language - Bahasa Inggeris
                               Mandarin - Bahasa Mandarin
                               Tamil - Bahasa Tamil

3. To read - Membaca
   - I speak and read in Mandarin. - Saya bercakap dan membaca dalam Bahasa Mandarin.

4. To learn or study - Belajar
    - He learns English. - Dia belajar Bahasa Inggeris.

5. To write - Menulis
    - We can write in Turkish. - Kami / Kita boleh menulis dalam Bahasa Turki.
                                                  ("boleh" means can)

Note: What is the difference between "kami" and "kita"?
          Kami - Us
          Kita - We

6. To understand - Faham
    - They understand Italian. - Mereka faham Bahasa Itali.

Note: If you want to tell someone that "I don't understand", it is "Saya tak faham", "tak" means "no".

7. To practice - Praktis
    - I practice French frequently. - Saya kerap praktis Bahasa Perancis.
                                                             ("kerap" means frequent / frequently)

To end this, how about answering me in Malay the language/languages that you are able to speak in? :)
