Beginner / Lesson 5 (What's Your Job?) || Learn Malay Through English ||

In this lesson, we will enter the theme "What's Your Job?". We are going to learn a few occupations in Malay.

1. What is your job? - Apakah pekerjaan awak?
                                  ("apakah" means what, "pekerjaan" means job or occupation)
2. I work as a ... . - Saya bekerja sebagai ... . 
3. Teacher - Cikgu / Guru
    - My teacher is very short. - Cikgu saya adalah sangat pendek.
4. Shop assistant - Pembantu kedai
                             ("bantu" means help or assist, "pembantu" means helper or assistant, "kedai" means shop)
    - The shop assistant works in the shop. - Pembantu kedai bekerja di kedai.
5. Lawyer - Peguam
    - A lawyer works in a law firm. - Seorang peguam bekerja di sebuah firma undang-undang.
                                                       ("firma" means firm, "undang-undang" means law)

Note: The words "seorang" and "sebuah" are articles. Which means in English, it is equivalent to "a/an/the". However, "seorang" is only used when referring to a "person" while "sebuah" is used when referring to an "object".

For example: seorang guru (A teacher)
                    seorang pembantu kedai (A shop assistant)
                    sebuah kedai (A shop)
                    sebuah firma (A firm)
                    sebuah restoran (A restaurant)

6. Student - Pelajar
    - Anna is a student. - Anna ialah seorang pelajar.
7. Waiter / Waitress - Pelayan
    - A waiter works in a restaurant. - Seorang pelayan bekerja di sebuah restoran.
8. Veterinarian - Doktor haiwan
                           ("doktor" means doctor, "haiwan" means animal)
    - A veterinarian works in a vet" - Seorang doktor haiwan bekerja di sebuah klinik haiwan.
                                                       ("klinik" means clinic)
9. Actor / Actress - Pelakon
    - The actress has brown hair. - Pelakon itu berambut perang.
10. Doctor - Doktor
    - A doctor works in a hospital. - Seorang doktor bekerja di sebuah hospital.
11. Nurse - Jururawat
      - The nurse works in a clinic. - Seorang jururawat bekerja di sebuah klinik.
