---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everybody has their own special sanctuary or a place they could call their own. It is where a person seeks solace. It is where they heal. It is THEIR place.

So, which part of the house is your sanctuary?

Personally, my bedroom is my sacred space. I think for most people it is. It is where I can actually think and myself.

Anyway...

The title of this lesson would be "Parts of the House" or rather "Bahagian-bahagian dalam rumah" in Malay.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Room - Bilik

    - How many rooms are there in your house? - Berapa bilik yang ada dalam rumah awak?

2. Kitchen - Dapur

    - I do the dishes in the kitchen after lunch. - Saya membasuh pinggan dan mangkuk dalam dapur selepas makan tengah hari.

Note: Basuh means "to wash". However, in Malaysia, it is common to also use cuci.
For example: I washed the clothes.
                     - Saya membasuh pakaian.
                     - Saya mencuci pakaian.

3. Dining room - Ruang makan

    - My parents have their breakfasts in the dining room. - Ibu bapa saya bersarapan pagi di ruang makan.

4. Bathroom - Bilik air

    - Where is the bathroom? - Di manakah bilik air?

Note: There are a few ways of saying bathroom, shower room and toilet.
Toilet is tandas. So, if you are in public or at a restaurant, tandas is used.
However, if you are at someone else's home, bilik air is the word to use. Bathroom means bilik air
Shower room is bilik mandi. It is rarely used unless you are at a swimming complex or the shower room and the toilet is separate.

5. Bedroom - Bilik tidur

    - I left my comb in the room. - Saya tertinggal sikat saya dalam bilik.

6. Living room - Ruang tamu

    - I am watching television in the living room with my family. - Saya sedang menonton televisyen di ruang tamu bersama keluarga saya.

Note: The term menonton is only used for movies, films, documentaries and tv series. In short, only for videos.

The preposition with is actually dengan in Malay. However, it is also correct to use bersama
For example: I am going with him.
                     - Saya akan pergi bersama dia.
                     - Saya akan pergi dengan dia.

7. Stairs - Tangga

    - We're going up the stairs. - Kami sedang menaiki tangga.
    - They have gone down the stairs. - Mereka telah turun tangga.

8. Store room - Bilik stor

    - The store room is dusty. - Bilik stor ini berhabuk.

9. Garden - Kebun

    - I water the plants in the garden every day. - Saya menyiram pokok-pokok bunga di kebun pada setiap hari.

10. Garage - Garaj

      - I have a garage with enough space for two cars. - Saya ada garaj yang mempunyai cukup ruang untuk muat dua kereta.

11. Door - Pintu

      - The door is made of wood. - Pintu itu dibuat daripada kayu.
      - Please lock the door. - Tolong kuncikan pintu.

12. Window - Tingkap

      - Can you close the window? - Bolehkah awak tutup tingkap?

13. Attic - Loteng

      - I kept the gifts in the attic so you couldn't find them. - Saya menyimpan hadiah-hadiah dalam loteng supaya awak tidak boleh menjumpainya.
